Portfolio Websites

A portfolio is a collection of professional information about an individual or business and is presented in a manner to promote their work. There are two main goals trying to be accomplished with a portfolio

  • To showcase the body of work
  • To provide end-users visiting the website with information

Just like placing advertisements via Facebook, OTT, Google Display, etc, a portfolio website can be another tremendous way to display information and attract more clients. Displaying a portfolio website can be done in a few different ways.

All Portfolio Websites contain four components: An About section, a Services page, a Portfolio of Work section, and a Contact page.

About

When designing the About page of a portfolio website, the main area to consider is providing info that is important to the types of clients you want to partner with. In addition, it’s good to incorporate your personality or your company’s personality. Including a real photo of yourself or your company’s team helps connect the audience. In terms of the actual content, it can be as simple as a quick summary statement and then directing visitors to your portfolio of work or services section. It can be more detailed with a history of the company, a call to action, and/or frequently asked questions. These are all considerations the team at Raborn Media can help determine and guide you on.

Services

This is where you place the services your offer and the skills you have. Sometimes you may provide a snippet of this in the About page, but this page provides more detail so that visitors know they are in the right spot and what they may be interested in. Again, there is a lot of flexibility with how the services page is displayed. It can be very simple with a graphic and the type of service offered, or it may be more of a detailed page with common examples of the services offered and how they might be displayed to the end-user.

Portfolio of Work

This is the main opportunity to “show off” and promote your work. You may show your collection of work via thumbnails, or you may categorize your creatives based on types of projects, and then customize from there. Ultimately, you want to provide your best projects, not necessarily all of your projects, in a simple, attention-grabbing manner for the user to click on or hover over and learn more about.

Contact

Finally, the contact page brings everything together and provides the avenue for the end-user to reach out to you or your company because they are interested in what is being offered. The main categories to think about are hours of operation, address, and contact information (office phone, cell phone, email). This is also an appropriate location to place your social media accounts. The contact page, like all of the others, has flexibility in terms of appearance and how much information is provided. A lot of that is dictated by the type of business you are and how you want clients and consumers to get in touch with you. While some individuals, maybe sole proprietors, do not mind providing their direct contact information, other individuals or organizations may prefer to provide a chat feature or a Contact Us submission box. Or maybe the Contact page is broken up by departments and physical locations. The key here though is options and simplicity. Make it an easy and enjoyable experience for a prospective user to inquire more about your services.
